When you are arrested or questioned in relation to a crime, it's natural to be intimidated by police and to want to appear cooperative. However, to protect all of your rights you should have quality legal counsel before making any statements to law enforcement. Politely but insistently request to speak to a lawyer.

Campbell & Campbell, PC offers free initial consultations to anyone facing criminal charges in Virginia. Based in Ashland, we represent clients in the greater Richmond area, Fredericksburg, Petersburg, Hanover County, Henrico County and the rest of Central Virginia. With thorough knowledge of surrounding court systems, we also offer local representation for clients from other parts of Virginia or from out-of-state who were charged with a crime.

Richmond defense attorney Hugh S. Campbell  has practiced criminal law in Virginia since 1992. An experienced courtroom litigator, he handles all misdemeanor and felony charges, including but not limited to:

  • DUI and felony drunk driving
  • Marijuana possession
  • Theft and grand larceny
  • Sex crimes
  • Arson
  • Assault and battery
  • Reckless driving
  • Speeding tickets and other traffic violations
  • Felony drug charges (distribution)
  • Embezzlement and fraud
  • Juvenile offenses
  • Conspiracy
  • Manslaughter and murder

Most felony matter go to trial, but in many instances we are able to negotiate a plea to a lesser offense or misdemeanor. However, it is not always feasible to plead guilty to a lesser charge. Campbell & Campbell, PC will make every effort to have charges reduced or dismissed, but we prepare every case the right way from the beginning in case it is in your best interests to go to trial.

Jury Trial vs. Court Trial
Many people assume they’ll have the best outcome with a jury. This is not always the case. For instance, a Virginia jury must recommend an active sentence in many instances. On the other hand, in a judge trial, the judge has the leeway to suspend all or part of most sentences.

The demographics of the local jury pool and attitudes about certain crimes must be taken into account as well. As a Richmond defense attorney, Hugh S. Campbell is the veteran of many criminal trials in Central Virginia. Based on his extensive experience, he will give you honest legal advice about requesting a judge trial, a jury trial or entering a plea agreement as the best avenue for your particular case.
